The individual thematic sections of the journal’s Reports department will inform readers about doctoral studies, and habilitation and appointment procedures in various music-related courses at Czech institutions of higher learning. The journal’s newly introduced departments will be predominantly informative. Their main objective is the regular coverage of the subjects dealt with in dissertations currently in progress as well as ones that have already been successfully defended, encompassing the full scope of doctoral studies in music, plus the subjects of habilitation theses and the contents of lectures pertinent to habilitation and appointment procedures. The department concerning doctoral studies in the journal’s online electronic version will include references to defended qualifying theses on academic websites, where under the provisions of Law No. 111/1998 on higher education institutions in its current wording, individual theses must be made openly accessible in their completeness, including opponents‘ assessments and notes. The main purpose of the inclusion of this department in the journal’s printed and electronic versions is to contribute in the further elevation of the standard of doctoral studies measured on the scale of both domestic and international criteria. The knowledge of a broad spectrum of subjects dealt with by contemporary musicology is an essential prerequisite of better mutual communication between students of various doctoral study programmes and their supervisors. The collaboration between the journal and the IAH/CAS on the one hand, and the chairs of the individual study field boards on the other, should be geared towards spotting talented doctoral students with a view to enabling them through the publication of articles in a scholarly professional journal in the course of work on their dissertations to take avail of a unique opportunity to become part of an international discourse on the subject they have chosen as their research field.
